hearing evaluations

Our hearing evaluations involve a complete, non-invasive evaluation of your hearing using state-of-the-art equipment. The aim of our tests is to determine the exact type and degree of your hearing loss so that we may provide the absolute best treatment.

To start, we’ll ask you questions about your medical history as well as visually inspect the ear canal and eardrum. We do these things to rule out any possibility of medical and ear complications leading to hearing loss.

Pure Tone Audiometry

This test measures your hearing ability at different pitches and at different volumes by raising your hand or pressing a button when a sound is detected. These results are recorded on a graph which is called an audiogram.

Word Recognition Testing

For this testing, an audiologist will test your ability to hear, understand and respond to speech by getting you to repeat words being played to you.

Immittance Audiometry

Immittance audiometry evaluates the eardrum and the middle ear space behind the eardrum. We are looking for any fluid in the middle ear or perforation of the eardrum.

Otoacoustic Emission Testing

Otoacoustic emission (OAE) testing evaluates the outer hair cells of the cochlea within the inner ear. The presence or absence of these sounds recorded can provide information about the function or health of the outer hair cells.

Speech in Noise Testing (SIN)

SIN evaluates how we understand in various levels of background noise. The results obtained on SIN tests can provide some very valuable insights into what might be the most appropriate amplification strategy along with realistic expectations.
